It’s official, Meb’s racing in the 2010 Boston Marathon. Thanks to the marvels of modern social networking, Meb’s Facebook fans/friends and Twitter friends/followers got the word in less than a couple of hundred characters.
Via Meb’s Facebook Fanpage:

With great achievements come great honors. This weekend was a big moment for me. Even though, there was a lot of traveling, it was a great opportunity to meet and interact with several runners, fans, officials, meet directors and sponsors.
Meb hanging with Elvis and Elvis in Vegas!
It started with the Rock N Roll Las Vegas Marathon. On Friday, I flew from San Diego to Las Vegas. On the way, it was great to be recognized by the ticket counter person. Then, I ran into some of the Rock N Roll staff and to a teammate of mine from UCLA. I also ran into my sister’s (Dr. Bahghi Keflezighi) co-worker who was heading to Vegas to get married.
Once I got to the hotel, I had an hour and ten minutes to spare before I go to the Nissan and Runnersworld Booth to sign autographs. Hmmm, what should I do … Well, you guessed it, I went for a run. 50min for the run followed by 20 min to stretch and get ready for the appearance. Luckily, I do not have hair to take care of, so it does not take me long to get ready

Meb spent Thanksgiving Day morning on the Statue of Liberty float in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with Miss America, Katie Stam. After the jump is a short video clip of Meb and Katie from NBC’s coverage of the parade. But first, enjoy the Adair County High School Marching Band’s great rendition of Aretha Franklin’s classic, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. [click to continue…]

Great article in Friday’s New York Times by Dave Anderson titled, From Yanks’ Core to Pacquiao, Plenty of Cheers.
Despite all of the negative stories in the sports world, on Thanksgiving there are plenty of names and memories that fans can be thankful f0r …
Meb Keflezighi, a child immigrant from a village with no electricity in war-ravaged Eritrea where he was one of 11 siblings, who waved and proudly pointed to the USA on his shirt in the home stretch of the New York City Marathon, the first American man to win since 1982…

I would like to start by giving thanks to God for the many Blessings bestowed in my life. I reflect daily on my life as a young boy in Eritrea living with no electricity, and barely the necessities like food and water. These thoughts often come to my mind and I am reminded daily how blessed my family and I are to have the life we have today. There are so many people who have sowed seeds in my life and for those people I am so thankful! [click to continue…]

“God does not give something you cannot handle.”
We have to handle life’s highs with integrity and joy. We must also
understand that in life, things won’t be perfect every day, 365 days a year.
We must recognize and enjoy the positive things in life that are all around
us with the people around us, because we can never predict what the next
days, weeks, months, or years will bring. [click to continue…]

Great interview with Meb in Friday’s Wall Street Journal about his life, his recent victory in nyc, and his reflections on it all. Click here to read the whole article.
If Meb sounds old school, that’s because he is. His message for young people is simple: “Life is precious. Do something that is optimistic—that is good for society. Don’t sit on the couch.”
